Personality Differences

The recent egg hunt really put it into perspective how extremely different Eli and Evan are in terms of personality.

Eli is competitive.  He is athletic, sweet and is a people pleaser.  When we said, "go!" he was off like a shot and quickly was putting as many eggs as possible in his basket.  His goal was to have the most.  He was having a blast!  At the end when he realized that some of the little kids didn't have very many, he put some of his eggs in their baskets.  Eli is a perfectionist to a fault.  He is excelling in many areas...academics (if you want to call it that already), sports, etc.  All of that is wonderful and we are so proud, but he is very hard on himself and gets frustrated very easily. Eli also struggles with being friendly in public..we have to remind him constantly to look at people, smile and say hello.  He is a little awkward socially!  Everything is a competition with him.

Evan, on the other hand, doesn't have 1 ounce of competitiveness in his body.  He just doesn't care...about anything really!  He doesn't really have any real interests, he is in NO hurry for anything and he gives up on things quickly.  Meals take forever with him (and a fight), cleaning up is like pulling teeth with him because he will just stroll around without accomplishing anything. That's the best way to sum him up! He doesn't care much about being a big boy..he says he wants to be 2 again. Ev doesn't care to learn his alphabet, numbers, how to write, etc. He doesn't care about sports and can't commit totally to play ANYTHING (drives us all crazy, especially Eli). He doesn't care what the other kids are doing. He will do his own thing. The kid moves at a snails pace and is fine with that.  Cory and I wonder where he gets this personality because it definitely is not how either of us are at all!  We have a lot to learn from him!  Slowing down is nice every now and then.  He teaches us that. And what he has going for him is that he is a sweet boy! Ev gives us hugs, kisses, tells us he loves us, tells Mommy and sissy how pretty we look, etc every day!  He spoils us. Evan is so easy to love. And, unlike his older brother, Evan is very friendly in public and knows no strangers.  He gets a lot of attention for that.

So, during the egg hunt when the kids took off to get eggs, our Ev just leisurely started walking around.  Frustrated, he yelled at one point, "Mommy, I only have 3 eggs!" and what was hilarious about that is that there were a lot around him and kids were wizzing by scooping them up.  He did end up getting several more and he threw a fit about giving some to the babies.  He didn't want to share. And 10 minutes later, Evan could care less about the eggs. He is something else!

And our little Bryn is still too young to really compare her personality other than when the boys were her age.  She is a firecracker compared to them.  She is a strong-willed child!  She knows what she wants, when and how.  Bryn is a mama's girl and is happy in my arms or lap.  But, she lights up when she sees daddy and the boys, too.  We can't wait to see how she develops, but we are a little scared too.  haha!
